'Sup, New Haven?

Downtown

The beating heart of the Elm City — dining, nightlife, arts, and the historic Green

About Downtown

Downtown New Haven is the cultural and commercial heart of the Elm City, centered around the historic New Haven Green — a 16-acre park that has served as the city's gathering place since 1638. The Green is framed by three historic churches and surrounded by a walkable grid of streets packed with restaurants, theaters, and shops. Chapel Street is the main artery, home to everything from the Yale University Art Gallery and Yale Center for British Art (both free!) to beloved restaurants like Union League Cafe, Zinc, and Claire's Corner Copia. Crown Street brings the nightlife with spots like Geronimo, Bar, and the Ordinary. College and Temple Streets add more dining, the Shubert Theatre, and the iconic Toad's Place. This is where New Haven comes alive.
